New Community Garden at Vancouver City Hall
Gone is the lawn of Vancouver's City Hall. On June 20, Evergreen and Mayor Gregor Robertson joined eager gardeners to claim and prepare their plots at the official opening of the Vancouver City Hall Community Garden. The space accommodates thirty individual plots, including three designed to be wheelchair accessible and three designed for people with limited mobility. There is also space for communal garden beds, herb and healing gardens, as well as space where food will be grown for donation to a local provider of free meals.
The Vancouver City Hall Community Garden is a joint effort between the City of Vancouver and Evergreen and is part of a wider municipal strategy to develop 2,010 community garden plots by 2010 as an Olympic legacy. This community garden is the newest addition to some 45 community gardens already operating within the City.
Evergreen is uniquely suited to be part of this important initiative, having over ten years of experience in administering community gardens. With the help of our supporters, this project will help to restore urban habitat, produce local food, and educate and engage the community in a nature-based project that will make a positive impact on the surrounding neighbourhood.

Earth Day Vancouver Success

Evergreen's 9th annual Earth Day Vancouver event was a record-breaking success! In just over 90 minutes, we planted 3,080 trees, shrubs, wildflowers and grasses, representing the largest single day planting event in Evergreen Vancouver's history! Early on in the event, more than 325 people were planting at once. In addition, participants took home more than 1,800 seedlings. Congratulations and THANKS to the more than 1,900 volunteers who came to Jericho Beach Park, pitched in and made a difference.
